Definition
Theocracy is where a religous leader or group rule an area or country. Their god decides laws, and the god or their representative rules the area.
Dictionary definition: a form of Government in which God or a deity is recognized as the surpreme civil ruler, the god's or deity's laws being intercepted by the eccesiastical authorities.
History/origin
The word Theocracy came from Greek. This form of government was first used by the Jews in the first century. They believed that their leader had a direct connection with god. The greek definition was 'Rule By The Gods'.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
If you are religous and the area you live in has a theocratic government, you can live by the laws of god that your religion believe in. There aren't that many positives for theocracy.
Cons:
As you can see in the image below, the people vote, god decides. Well, generally the leader would be considered a representative of god so they decide. People would have little or no input into what laws were created. If people wanted to live in that particular area and they didn't beleive in that religion, they would probabaly not live there. People can be put off by the type of government an area or country has. No one can decide who rules. 'If you have an election, then it is not a theocacy'.
